Eruptions average 100 feet (31 m) high, with some rare “superbursts” of 200 feet (61 m) or more. Eruptions last 45-60 minutes in a series of bursts. Great Fountain Geyser takes 10-14 hours to rebuild to an eruption. The pool slowly fills, then begins to overflow 70-100 minutes before the eruption. Video: YF / Matt Ludin

Depending on the time of year, anywhere between 5,000 -60,000 gallons per second (18,927-22,7125 l/s) of water plunges 308 feet (93 m) over Lower Falls. You can catch a distant view of this power from some overlooks adjacent to the parking lot. Or you can descend to the brink on this steep trail that drops 600 feet (180 m) over 0.4-mile. Mud Volcano
Переглядів 2,3 тис.14 днів тому
Early explorers to Yellowstone described this features as a “most repulsive and terrifying site.” It is a volcano-like cone, 30 by 30 feet high and wide (9 x 9 m) with mud that erupts and covers tall trees. When Nathaniel P. Langford, the first superintendent of Yellowstone, visited in 1870, he saw “a seething, bubbling mass of mud.” It is likely a violent eruption blew out the cone’s side, lea...

She didn't mention educational classes on safety. So many people are hurting themselves and putting their children and pets in danger these days. I don't think pets should be allowed. And I'd really like to know what they have to say about what they did and why they did it. This video is short enough to be mandatory for visitors to watch before entering the park. Along with a list of what has happened to others who do not obey the rules. Not paper pamphlets. Since we already know they don't read the warning signs.

I love Yellowstone National Park! What's not to like at YNP! I've visited many times. I do disapprove of people who walk up to wildlife and disrupt their lives. The animals pay for what people have done to them. People must be banned from all national parks and be fined for disturbing the wildlife.

I absolutely love YNP. It's my happy place. I've been fortunate to visit it many times. I only wish that all people would respect the land and wildlife, unlike the tourons that seem to feel the rules don't apply to them. Please give all wildlife a break by driving the speed limit and admiring them from afar.

Sleeping at Norris campground in mid Sept., cold and clear. Waking every few minutes and hearing the Geysers over in the geyser basin ; listening to the coyotes yipping at each other and the owls hooting at each other. Then 2 bull elk began their bugling at each other, close by, so, loud. I crawled out of my mummy bag and quietly sat on the picnic table. I couldn't see them but I could hear them. Shortly, the sound of rattling antlers filled the silence and somewhere in the campground, I heard another insomniac mutter softly "wow".Being 20 degrees out I slipped back into my sleeping bag and listened till dawn. This was the Best Worst night of sleep I have ever had!

Can these bear spray cannisters be safely stored like in a freezer? I'd like to know if either cold storage or non-frozen cold storage could help store them safely. The reason I ask this is that people I know who have used these have had them leak and get stuff in their cars and trunks from the cannisters minute discharge rate over time after it had been sitting. It also seems that you have a higher chance of the cannister leaking in higher heat, so this adds to the idea maybe cold storage would work better? (But is it OK to freeze them or just keep them below 50 degrees?) I hoped someone might have feedback on this. Thanks.

You're the only other person I've seen who can mimic ravens the same way I can! I'm enchanted! It even sounds like Yellowstone ravens have a different "accent" than northern Canada, how cool is that?! Pretty decent approximation of the water gloop sound - I've never been able to master that one!
